We can complete complex tasks with ease because of their emergence and they are still improving to meet our needs. These rapid developments have given way to the development of humanoid robots that will assist us with our daily activities.

Combining AI with robotics has greatly increased their abilities in critical thinking, self-task assignment, and efficient time management. These improvements have helped us develop robots that assist humans in fields such as hospitality, healthcare, and even service sectors.

Healthcare:

  • AI-powered robots help doctors diagnose their patients in a more efficient manner and without any human error.
  • Robots interact with patients to identify their needs and find methods to fulfill them.
  • Analyze patient and other data to provide optimal results.

Hospitality:

  • Many developed countries such as Japan, China, and the USA have deployed human robots in railway stations to assist passengers with train schedules and other information that they may need.
  • Employing robots in malls and retail stores has significantly improved customer relations as robots are hospitable and maintain a friendly manner while assisting humans.

Service Sectors:

  • Many restaurants have employed AI robots to serve food to customers to increase efficiency and reduce human errors.
  • AI-driven robots with wheels are seen rolling through the streets to deliver food and other products to the customer’s doorsteps.

Leading Companies in the Development of Domestic Robots

While commercial robots are already widely implemented across various sectors, domestic personal robots are still not fully accessible to the general public. However, many companies have developed highly advanced personal assistant robots that are nearing perfection.

Few companies and their products 

  1. Tesla Inc. has developed a humanoid robot named Tesla Optimus, the role of this robot is to perform household chores and to assist with all-over tasks.
  2. Anki’s Vector is a small AI companion robot with voice recognition and smart home integration.
  3. Amazon Astro is a home assistant robot that integrates with Alexa, provides home monitoring, and has smart home systems.
  4. SoftBank Robotics, a company based in America has made a robot named Pepper, it is a robot made specifically for social interaction and assistance.

Difficulties faced by companies in Developing Humanoid Robots

Developing advanced humanoid robots holds significant challenges, right from hardware to software, some of the challenges are:

  1. Development of Synthetic Muscles:  Many companies are struggling to find a replacement for the traditional motor for the robot’s movements. One of the suggested alternatives is electric-powered muscles, which will provide more human-like movements and superhuman abilities, but it is not an easy task to develop a synthetic muscle from scratch.
  2. Software Development Challenges:  Even if the machine was developed over time, the developers still have to perfect the software and AI that they are going to integrate with the robot to provide optimal results.

Key Benefits of Personal Assistant Robots:

  • Personal robots can help schedule appointments, set reminders, and more. Thus, it makes daily life more organized and efficient.
  • Advanced AI-powered robots can be companions for elderly people or those who live alone. More importantly, they can start conversations and recognize emotions, which provides great mental support.
  • Personal robots are designed to handle household tasks like vacuuming and cooking with no human help. This reduces human commitment and allows you to focus on more important things.
  • Equipped with AI-driven surveillance features, personal assistant robots can monitor homes. They can detect unusual activities and send security alerts. They can even integrate with smart locks and alarm systems to enhance home safety.

Limitations of Personal Assistant Robots:

  • There is a huge security concern about privacy and the potential misuse of sensitive information by companies and even hackers. Smart robots often process data that has been collected through cameras and microphones.
  • Even with the rapid development of technology in robotics, the robot may still face errors and malfunctions due to some reasons. 
  • Occasional glitches in voice recognition may result in misinterpretation of commands from humans. It may provide incorrect results. In the worst-case scenario, software bugs may even lead to potential safety risks.
  • Advanced robots require occasional hardware replacements, software updates, and many more, which makes it expensive for long-term operations.

Home personal robot assistants are in the process of being developed to help humans perform household chores, enhancing convenience, and providing better home automation. They communicate with human users with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), voice recognition, and machine learning to offer maximum output and efficiently perform tasks that humans cannot perform.
